On Saturday 7th March, local Councillor Anton Georgiou, helped to organise the first Alperton Clean Up Day. Local residents and volunteers from across London, including from Siobhan Benita’s Gold Squad joined to start the much needed clean up of the area. In total over 40 bags of rubbish were collected from streets around the Abbey Estate and Heather Park.
Anton said, “It was really positive to have so many people join us for the first Alperton Clean Up Day. When I was elected I said that my main focus would be to ensure that we get to grips with what is a major littering and fly tipping issue in the area. I will be helping to arrange more action days like this in the coming weeks and months.
Beyond the litter picking on these Clean Up Days, I hope that this initiative will act as a visual reminder to people in Alperton who continue to dump rubbish that it is wrong and they must stop. I will continue working with officers at the Council to put in place policies that deter people from disrespecting the area in this way and cracking down on those who choose to ignore the rules. We all have a part to play in stamping out this behaviour and ensuring Alperton is cleaned up and stays that way.”
